[Indie Business]

Just a little post to spread word about an online class I am excited to take, hosted by 3 super lovely women whom I'm lucky to call friends! :)

Indie Business - Starting, Surviving, Succeeding is a 6 week Online Class for women and men wanting to build an online or local creative business. We'll focus on Starting, Surviving and Succeeding in small business and cover everything in between! The class runs from March 7th - April 16th and is taught by Leigh-Ann, Jill and Elsie. Hosted in a members only blog (written content), the 26 sessions, 7 DIY projects and 3 live chats are sure to give you all the tools you need to establish yourself and achieve success with your Small Business! The course also includes a printable workbook with original illustrations by Elsie Flannigan and room for all your homework, notes and ideas! Visit indie-business.com for full details and registration info. Email questions to Leigh-Ann at indieworldwide@gmail.com

Looking forward to it!

(ps: check the post below for a cute baby mobile tutorial!)

.DIY-Baby Mobile.

I've been wanting to make a mobile for Delilah's room, but hadn't decided on what would hang from it... until I saw this! The design is mod, and simple, and oh-so-cute!

For the mobile, you will need:

2 inside rings of embroidery hoops - I used a 5" and a 9".
yarn
various buttons
disappearing ink pen for tracing (not necessary)
felt
needle & thread

-To start, I chose the colors of yarn that I want to use, and wrapped the 2 rings. Use smaller pieces of yarn to make this easier. I wrapped them while watching the olympics, so it didn't seem so tedious.
-Once you come to the end, thread the yarn through a needle, and make a knot by threading the end through some of the yarn that was wrapped at the beginning.

-Print out the Mod Flowers, and trace them onto felt, cut out. Cut multiple sizes for layering the flowers.

-Layer the flowers how you fancy, and attach them with a button. Use a needle and thread to sew the button in the middle of the flowers, and tie off neatly in the back.

-Make 4 smaller flowers for the smaller ring (these I used just a single layer), and 5 larger layered flowers for the outer ring of the mobile.

-Use thread to attach the flowers to the rings at various heights, however you like. Tie with a knot.

-cut 4 pieces of thread the same length, around 5 inches, and tie onto the smaller ring equal distance apart. You will use these threads to attach the small ring to the outer one.
-It's quite tricky attaching the smaller ring to the outer one... so I suggest hanging the outer ring first, and then suspending the smaller one by tying one of the 4 pieces of thread to it first, and tying the other 3 on one at a time to make sure it's hanging straight. I'm not sure how else to describe this part... it took me a few tries to get it level.
and voila! I think it's going to look super cute in her new bedroom. :) It'll be a while before we hang it though... moving into the new house in a little over a month.

I'll leave you with a photo of Simon. He "helped" me assemble the mobile.

busy.

but I did make time for english toffee....

...and a little crafting. (see her hairpiece, it's actually for a cute baby mobile diy that I'll post tomorrow. The flower pattern is from Elsie's Mod Flower download.)

it's been one crazy week.... One that I don't want to have to re do.
I'm only working shifts at the salon for another 2 weeks or so (then I'm off for a while!), and there's some exciting changes happening there as well, so HURRAH!

...and goodnight.

2. Sweet Panda Bear Mary-Janes I love Em& Sprout! The shoes are sooo adorable.
3. Ceramic Deer Figurine - I think this would make a cute accent in Delilah's room.

inspired by...

PRETTY necklaces! (like this cuckoo clock one)

(super lovely pendant necklaces from That Vintage)

(above 3 from Stella & Dot)

(above beauties are my current Anthro favorites)

Long, short, delicate, bold, cute, feminine...I'm being inspired by them all!
I think every outfit in a spring wardrobe can be improved with a lovely necklace.
:)

manicures and things.

I have had gel nails for almost an entire year, and with my 'leave' from work coming up, I thought I should give them a break because I won't be at the salon as much as I am now. It was nice to have a manicure this morning, and have my nails painted! I chose a new shade by OPI from their Hong Kong collection: Jade is the New Black. It's different, and I quite like it!

Salon tip: After choosing to remove gel nails, the nail can sometimes be slightly damaged, or thin. You should have an esthetician file off the gel, rather than trying to remove them yourself, which can cause a lot more damage to the nail. Once the gel nail is filed off, apply a nail builder/strengthener (such as Nail Envy, or LCN Nail Builder) to the nail before polish.

Here's some more manicure inspiration:
*SO* pretty... (found via Janel's blog)

On a different topic, I exchanged Talula's stock eyechips (orange) for these beauties!
I got them from Erinlee's Etsy shop. She actually hand draws/paints each one with acrylics and pencil crayons! The detail in real life is really pretty.

I'm having fun experimenting with customization on my doll. I have a feeling this might be the start of a new hobby, and that's exciting. (unfortunately expensive, but super fun!)

Tonight I'm crocheting, and playing with Simon, and getting our house ready to show tomorrow... I have a cool baby nursery DIY coming up soon!

two thirds.

I'm 28 weeks today.
Which is also 2 thirds.
Which means I'm into the THIRD trimester now.
woah.
It's been flying by, but I have a feeling the next 12 weeks will be pretty uncomfortable...
Getting closer to meeting Delilah!

Tonight Ryan and I were able to have a date night! We went to my favorite seafood restaurant, Red Lobster. It was great to go out for a fantastic meal.

Ryan's the best. (I love love you!)

Just a quick shout out to Ryan's parents who are in the Dominican Republic right now! They are on a similar trip that we went on last february, working for the same foundation. I wish we could have gone this year, but with baby on the way, we'll have to go another year.

Hey Mom I thought you would get a kick out of this:
We've been trying to teach Simon how to say "Dominican Republic" and think he says it soooo cute! So Jackie or I will ask him on occasion "Where are Grandma & Grandpa?", just to hear him say it. One time Jackie asked him, and his response was "....I don't want to talk about it..." LOL, I think he misses you guys already!

Hope everyone had a LOVELY day.

[valentines fun]

Talula got a cute new outfit today, so that called for cupcakes!
...and a photoshoot of course.

She's sitting with the pretty flowers that Ryan got me as an early Valentine's surprise. :)

What are your plans for this Valentines Day??
ps:

Fab Finds Friday - Canadian Olympic Gear!

1. Olympic Red Mittens
2. Canuck Tee
3. Lambswool Sweater
4. Quatchi Mascot Plush
5. Miga toque
(all items found via the Official Gear Store)

It's exciting that the Olympics are in Canada this year, and I think they've come up with some awesome gear! Aritzia had so many great items, and the Gear Store has a ton of cute things for kids, and adults alike. I'm not a huge Olympics person, but we will be watching the Opening Ceremonies this evening, to see what Vancouver has come up with! What's one event YOU'RE looking forward to watching? I like watching the figure skating...

Happy Valentines Day weekend!! (happy long weekend!)

I thought it would be fun to start a feature on the blog, which motivates me to share things I've come across online that I fancy. I've seen it on other blogs as well. It's going to be on Fridays, and I'll feature things I've found whether it be handmade, or photos, or DIY's.

Delilah's Colors

I've finally narrowed it down. So I can start looking for things for Delilah's nursery!
Soft peachy pinks, cream, light fawn, robin egg, and splashes of deep teal & dark coral.

I was super inspired by a room featured in the March issue of Canada's Style at Home magazine.

this photo of lace:

...and this LOVELY painting by Rachel! I already had the colors picked out, and then I came home and saw this photo on her blog....
and the colors match perfectly! Cool how that happens.

Just wanted to share.... :)
