Yarn is my most favorite craft supply. Buying it is a weakness of mine...It's so much fun to pick out colors of yarn for something, isn't it? It's fun to go to the supply store, and look at all the pretty colors, feel all the different textures, and choose something beautiful for a new project. It's probably one of my favorite crafty feelings, next to completing a project. :)
Tonight I got to pick out some colors of yarn for a knit blanket. Not one that I will be knitting though. Ryan's Aunt, who knit Delilah a beautiful blanket that I mentioned previously, e-mailed me and said I should pick some colors because she may get some knitting done for Christmas time. Excited! (colors I chose are pictured above)
What is your favorite kind of yarn? What would be your favorite color combination for a blanket? I think my favorite yarn right now is Noro, because I love the colors.

I always want to like Noro, but it isn't soft enough and I'm always disappointed when I touch it because it looks so pretty! I love spinning my own yarn with nice squishy soft fibre, like merino. For commercial yarn, I definitely love Malabrigo the best, followed closely by Misti Alpaca.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours you picked! My gramma made me a blanket once and she let me pick the colours... I picked lime green, purple and fuchsia. She told me it nearly made her go cross eyed.
okay, as much as I love yarn...I think it is about time for a delilah post. I am dying to see some new baby pics! :D
ReplyDeletei LOVE noro. and i have a bad yarn-buying obsession, too. love the colors you chose!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you chose! It's kinda fun to just pick out the yarn and then hand it over to someone else to do the "work".
ReplyDeleteI adore Nora yarn, just wish it wasnt so darn expensive!
ReplyDeleteI love this post, for only a little one you've inspired me to get on top of my knitting projects!
ReplyDeleteWe've just had my mums pet sheep sheered and I'm now thinking the fleeces would make a great scarf for christmas. I might have to find a friend with a baby so I can buy some beautiful new yarn too!
You describe the feeling och choosing and buying yarn of mine so well. :) Most of the time, I don't even finish my projects though... But it warms my heart to be in the shop, getting a lot if ideas and wonder what to choose. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI looooove yarn. Right now I really like Bernat Satin for knitting up baby blankets. I just bought six balls today! Haha. I could look at pictures of yarn for hours... or just hang out in a yarn store.
ReplyDeletePS. I just started my blog last week, go check it out i you'd like! :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Spud and Chloe "Outer". It is so yummy and soft and unfortunately not cheap...but I enjoy working with it so much I had to get over that fact. :)
ReplyDeleteI have bags and back pack and shelves full of yarn...however I always seem to be missing that one particular color. ;)
Hey Holly! I love your blog! I've recently finished knitting a baby blanket for my new niece Maeve (she is a cutie), I used NZ Mohair (97% mohair - which only cost me like 6 bucks a ball) in slate grey. It's pretty cute. I used 8mm needles so it's quite loopy and oh so soft. Initially I was worried that the mohair wouldn't be suitable for a newborn, but my sister assures me that she'd only put it over baby's other sheets and things - so the fluff wouldn't get in her mouth and such! phew! Now all I want to finish it off, is a silver satin trim around the edges. it's proving hard to find so luckily I am off to Melbourne this week so I will source some there! yay. My sis was lucky to score three other beautiful handknitted blankies for Maeve, from aunties and Nanny. one is a gorgeous crochet number, your typical 'crochet squares' but done in beautiful shades of pea green, pinks, creams etc. very similar to the colours you chose actually so it's going to be a winner!

Gorgeous! I love your color combo :)
ReplyDeleteI love a nice cotton yarn...but I'm a total sucker for mustard yellow yarn right now, along with really bright purples, blues, and greens.
Daydream Believer: thanks for introducing me to Spud & Chloe!! I Love their site, and I definitely want to pick some up and try knitting with it.
ReplyDeleteCece: I love the name Maeve!! She's lucky to get a blanket from her auntie! :)
Oh yes yarn is my obsession as well. Since finding how lovely fibers are to knit with, I only use naturals now. I love Spud and Chloe and their parent company Blue Sky Alpaca. And of course all things Knit Picks. Their yarns are gorgeous, soft and reasonably priced. I love them all.
ReplyDeleteMmm, I know exactly what you mean. I have been crocheting for only a little while but am already feeling an addiction to the joys of yarn buying! I have some yarn just because it felt lovely and lloked pretty, with no idea yet what to do with it.
