[Le french press]

I shall call him Mr. Bean. ;)
I got myself a french press coffee maker today. I'm kind of very excited to start using it! I thought that the coffee addict in me should graduate from the the percolator and try the french pressed version of my favorite bevvy. :)

How many of you have one? Do you love it? What kind do you have? Any tips?
*fyi: this one is the "Bean" press by Bodum.

Other things of note from the day:
- it was my first day back at work. (eeeep!) I'm happy that my SIL has offered to care for the kiddos so I can work at the salon part time.
- Jenna and I made fresh strawberry wareneki! They're like perogies. Our husbands enjoyed them so I say it was a success!
-I felt jazzy listening to Diana Krall and drinking wine.
-The sky is full of storm clouds one minute, sunshine the next, beautiful sunset, and rainbows all in one evening. Pretty.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

  1. I got one as a wedding gift in May and I LOVE it! You get such a better flavor with a french press than with a percolator. Ours is a Bodani and it is wonderful. My only tip is to play around with the brewing time until you get the strength that you like :) Obviously, the longer you let it brew, the stronger the coffee! We usually brew ours for about 11 minutes, but we like rather strong coffee ;)

  2. here in New Zealand those are called plunger's!! most people use them for coffee's at home or instant coffee is your feeling lazy ;) they are amazing and the coffee is SO good! i pour the hot water in and stir it a few times then usually brew mine for about 5-6 min... then slowly and careful 'plunge' the press down! and voila! yummy coffee!:)

  3. My boyfriend first introduced me to French Presses a few years ago, and ever since then I've been obsessed. I really love the taste of coffee made with a FP, but I hate the fact that they break so easily. I must have broke 3 or 4 this past year!

    Love your new orange one!

  4. I always make sure to fill my fp with hot tap water while the "real" water is boiling so that the shock on the glass isn't as harsh.

    I love the orange color!

  5. I love my FP. Mine is from Starbucks and not as pretty as yours! I carry it around, room to room, with me all morning! It's right beside my keyboard as I type! I think it makes the best coffee. Enjoy!

  6. I keep seeing French presses lately. I think they're so classy! I need to learn to love coffee so I can use one. I can't remember which blog I saw it on, but the other day I saw a baby pink one and it was magnificent!

  7. I think I need a review! I'm a huuuuge coffee person and we have a machine, a number of tea pots and an espresso machine (lol) and I kind of want a french press, but I think it would be over kill. Is the taste really different?

    hmm.... :)

  10. I had one and broke the glass not to long ago. After that I did a bunch of reading on brewing coffee and read that the french press coffee tastes best when you use a corse grind. Right now I use an italian stovetop maker and love it

  12. I love my french press! It's so wonderful to use when you're the only one who drinks coffee.

My suggestion, buy good coffee or coffee that is a bit more bolder. Folders in a press tastes ok, but something like Starbucks or ones from Trader Joe's tastes awesome. And don't let it sit too long before pressing, I hear 3-5 minutes is ideal: )

    Have fun!

  13. french press coffee is my favourite, next to espresso. i like to let it "steep" for extra long so i can add extra milk and make it almost like a latte :)

i had a classic bodum for years and years and it was awesome! then one day the glass broke (in my dishwasher) and i was very sad. i was also sad to learn it cost almost as much as a brand new bodum to get a replacement glass for it. now i have a cheap french press from IKEA (less than half the price as just the replacement glass for a bodum!) and it works just as good. although no fun colours :( but something to keep in mind if you ever need a replacement!

  14. p.s. you can get a cute little "cozy" for those french presses too, to help keep your coffee warmer for longer (I got one from Etsy and it works great)

My watch is a Fossil one, just plastic. I really like it. The ceramic ones look fabulous, but holy cow are they pricey!

  16. Is Decaf a no-no for a french press??

  17. We have the same press and LOVE it! We usually reserve it for weekends or on mornings when we aren't rushed. One thing I'd recommend is sewing or knitting a sleeve for it to keep your coffee warm longer. Enjoy!

  19. Hey Holly!

That is awesome that you got a french press! that is all Lucas and I ever use. It really does make better tasting coffee. Lucas and i used moms shower gift to get one. Although it is not as nice as yours. Lucas likes to make his coffee with it. I do too sometimes, but i really like to use it for loose teas. It was so handy on our honeymoon, even though we were camping in the woods, we could still have our morning coffee!

  20. I am absolutely addicted to french press coffee. I like to use very hot, but not boiling water and make sure to stir the grinds up and let it sit for a few minutes. I like really strong coffee, so the blacker it gets the better! It makes such smooth coffee!!!! 100% better than regular brewing.

  21. thanks again for the great tips! I'm def planning on crocheting a cozy for it, so fun!
I purchased a fair trade columbian coffee today, and got them to grind the beans for me, just mentioned that it was for a press, and he ground it accordingly (course). Can't wait to try it!!

C.M. Steeves: I'm thinking decaf should work, just depends on the grind probably. :)
