Today's prompt from the Tell Your Story art journal class was great. We all want a lot of things. It was hard for me to decide exactly what to paint in words. I thought of putting 'I want more than anything to be a good role model for my kids'... but what would that mean exactly, I wanted it to be more personal... so how can I be a good and positive role model.... I think if I can manage to live my life to it's fullest, and be thankful for everyday we have, and for everything we are blessed with, that might be a good place to start.
It's a very windy day today! Our bbq almost blew off of our deck, no joke. Hopefully I'll still get out this evening for a walk though, because I want to get this labor started!! My doctor says I'm already dilating, and everything seems to be in position, so let's get this show on the road! :P
I have hope that Delilah won't be overdue like Simon was (but you still never know)... I tried everything last time, even castor oil!! (EWWW) Does anyone have funny labor inducing stories? I'd love to hear.
Hope everyone's having a great week.

Ewww... I've heard castor oil horror stories!
ReplyDeleteWe have a local pizza place that sells a Prego Pizza.. I guess it's put many-a woman into labor! It's basically like a garbage dump pizza.. they put EVERY topping on it. *scrumples nose* I don't know if I'm cool with that.. especially since I've read that toward the end of your pregnancy, you tend to get a little nauseous.. Am I right?
Hope Little D decides to show up soon!
So exciting!! Will keep my fingers crossed that it won't be too long now!
ReplyDeleteWell I did lots and lots of walking...lots of bouncing on an exercise ball and drank nettle tea and red raspberry tea. I went ten days early. AND I was brushing my teeth and sorta gagged and my water broke. Who knows. Is that TMI? Good luck. PS-I loved the hospital in your town. That's where I had my son. It was so nice.
ReplyDeleteyour journal page is so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my besties just had a baby a little over a month ago, and she was super eager to get the show on the road too! She drank this weird tea called blue cohosh tea, but it is truly disgusting, I know, she let me try it. I hope this isn't too offensive, but sex is also a good way to naturally induce labor. Anyhow, good luck, and I hope your baby girl gets her safely, and soon! xo.
ReplyDeleteApparently peppermint oils help induce labour. My friend (who just had her second baby girl on good friday, ten days early) tried raspberry leaf tea, but I do know that on the night the baby was born we all went out for a CRAZY HUGE buffet (forget eating for two, she ate enough for at least seven people as did we all) and then later that night (repeating what Ashley said: sorry if this is TMI) she had sex and a few hours later baby wanted OUT. So, you know...you could try a crazy food night followed by some alone time. :)
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile art journaling sounds like such a fabulous idea and yours is really pretty!
After three kids and trying everything. I found that getting a ton of rest helped. I know it sounds silly but I tried everything with my first and I had to be induced. With my second and 3rd I rested and nested a ton and the baby came sooner and easier. The third I baked a ton and refused to believe I was in labor till I met the dr at the hospital to be induced. Turns out I was in labor and had been but refused to admit it. Babies and labor are a funny thing.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've heard of this before but I've heard many mothers swear by it. As an alternative to using castor oil to induce labor, you may use evening primrose oil to naturally ripen the cervix. It is an excellent source of prostaglandins. I'd encourage you to consider this as there are no nasty side effects like the castor oil.
ReplyDeleteIt comes in a softgel that can be taken orally or inserted vaginally before bed. Oral use can start as early as 34 weeks and cervical application at full term.
The recommended dose is two 500mg capsules per day. At full term you can add two capsules vaginally before bed, at which time the entire capsules will dissolve.
i know nothing about hurrying up the delivery, but i'm glad that things are looking good and starting up a little. can't wait to meet her!
ReplyDeleteI drank raspberry tea until I thought I'd turn into a raspbery, and the sex thing, nope, didn't work (plus really, what woman really likes this option at this point?!) I walked and walked and walked and walked. Nope. So, to squash all the castor oil stories, I'll tell you I did it with both of my babies and would do it again in a second! C was born 3 hours after I took it and A, 2 hours. :) Worked like a DREAM for me and no nasty side effects, other than crazy contractions right away. So don't be scared by it. SO gross, yes, but its like Buckleys, it works ;)
ReplyDeleteI tried everything but the castor oil. I drank raspberry tea. I walked around every Walmart, Target, Lowes, craft store, and mall that was in Richmond, VA. I jumped up and down through the fabric aisles at Joanns once. I ate spicy foods, had a spicy spicy taco salad the day my daughter was due... nothing.
ReplyDeleteShe was a week late. I had to be induced. and I was 1 centimeter dilated for over a month. :( I hope you have better luck than I had!!! :)
hmmmm... i don't think i tried anything too weird... just lots and lots of walking. and, apparently, it didn't do me any good! i, too, started dialating early and walked around at 4 cm for a month before they finally had me come to the hospital so they could break my water.
ReplyDeleteTMI, sorry!
hang in there, mama--she will be here soon!
Our son was due the day after Thanksgiving and I tried eating 2 GIANT Thanksgiving meals...didn't work. Sigh...he was 4 days "late". Have allergies this time around...hoping a big sneeze will do it! ;)
ReplyDeleteA good alteration between walking and resting did it for me on all 3 previous counts! I would walk to induce the Braxton Hicks contractions, and then I would make my way home and chill out, or have a nap. Twice I woke up from one of those naps with real contractions.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you and I hope you won't have to be induced (and I hope the same for me this time around!).
xoxo
